Black & Decker HS1050 7-Quart Food Steamer (Kitchen) We got this unit because we purchased a digital one from BB&B that crapped out after only a couple months. We like the simplicity of this unit, and it works fine. We had to get a new lid for the unit because the one that came with it was warped. But even the new lid doesn’t fit all that well onto the clear parts, and the clear parts don’t fit into the base really tightly. It works, but it all seems loose. |

Black & Decker HS1000 Handy Steame r with Flavor Scenter Screen (Kitchen) The steamer is Ok – but I think the basket could be improved – it is of very weak, and seemingly cheap plastic – it is not even fully attached at the bottom – just a few ‘tags’ to attach the bottom. I think it might break soon – my last one did – you cannot replace the basket, you have to buy a whole new steamer. The plastic is the kind that discolors and attracts oil etc – hard to keep clean. It just seems like there should be a better plastic out there. |

Black & Decker B&d Flavor Scenter Steame R Replaces Hs80 (Kitchen) I have enjoyed having our Handy Steamer for some time now, using it intermittently for making steamed vegetables and similar dishes. It has proven to be sturdy, reliable, easy to use, and even easier to clean. It comes with a handy cookbook with recipe ideas and guidelines for how long to cook various types of foods.This machine is limited in its functionality, however, because it only has two. positions — on and off. The only variables are how long you turn it on, and how much water you place in the steam chamber (which directly depends on cooking time to prevent the machine from boiling dry). Even so, it’s definitely worth the modest investment to have one of these readily available in your kitchen. |

Black Black & Decker HS1000 Handy Steamer with Flavor Scenter Screen (Kitchen) I purchased this item about a month ago and use it almost every day. Every batch of rice I’ve made has turned out perfect – brown or white. It also does a great job of cooking potatoes, yams or sweet potatoes; I don’t have to heat the oven just to bake a few potatoes.This steamer is very easy to clean, however the steaming bin/container is made of very cheap, thin plastic which is the reason for downgrading it to four stars. I handle the steaming bin with great care when cleaning for fear of cracking or breaking it. I have run the items that need washed through the dishwasher with out any problems but will probably get a backup bin in case I need it. If the double decker model had been available I would have purchased it for just a few dollars more and would have kept the second bin for backup.Overall – this product does everything I hoped it would do. I’m just disappointed that Black & Decker has taken the cheap production route which has noticeably degraded the quality of their products. Too bad, Black & Decker used to have a reputation for quality items. |

Aroma ARC-737G 7-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen) We purchased the same rice cooker for the same price about 5 years ago. It was a great and simple product: easy to use, reliable, and it made perfect rice every time. When it was time to buy a new rice cooker we thought why not buy the same one? Well, I’ll tell you why—because the manufacturer took a great product and cut costs. We are left with a cheap imitation of the old rice cooker. We have used it about 10 times now and have decided to donate this one and buy a new one from another brand. The rice, no matter what brand or type (brown, white, jasmine, basmati) has been watery and overly sticky. The product itself is also a lot lighter than the old one and it makes a slight rattling sound when cooking the rice. If you’re looking for a simple and quality rice cooker I fear this is not the product for you. |

Rice Cooker My husband bought this rice cooker in 2005 before we met. We use it at least once a month just to make white rice. It doesn’t steam veggies or anything like other rice cookers do but we love it. The rice can get a little crunchy or overdone on the bottom but it’s not that much rice wasted and I can usually still eat it when heated in the microwave for leftovers. I wouldn’t recommend this product if you have a big family or anything but it suits us well. |

Black & Decker RC3303 3-Cup Rice Cooker (Kitchen) I bought this rice cooker in order to try a rice cooker. I’d heard that if you want to cook rice, this was the way to do it. For the price, I felt I could try it.I will never cook rice in anything but a rice cooker again. In fact, I’d love to get one that cooks larger portions as the 3-cup is not large enough for my family.Have you ever tried to cook brown rice? It’s almost impossible, and takes at least two hours on the stove in order to get right. With the rice cooker, it was a quarter the time, and came out perfect! There are still slight differences between brown and white rice once cooked, but no longer was I plagued with a hard lump of brown rice. In the rice cooker, it came out nice, fluffy, and delicious. Eating healthier is no longer a chore or a discomfort.I have also cooked quinoa in the rice cooker. It also came out perfect- fluffy and delicious, with little work from me!Sometimes my husband stays at work longer than intended. Dinner will be ready anywhere from a half hour to an hour and a half before he gets home. I haven’t tried longer, but even with that long, if you keep the cooker on the warm setting and keep the lid on, it remains just as if it finished cooking. It does not dry out. There is no need to cook more rice for him. |
